Homeschooling Resources

As far as homeschooling styles and methods go, there can be an overwhelming amount of choices out there for starters!  However, one of the perks of homeschooling is being able to choose a philosophy that matches your family's individual learning styles. Some families find that  structured virtual distance programs work well for them, while others may follow a more informal hands-on approach of interest-led learning. There are no right answers here, but it is important to pay close attention to the needs of your family.  Developing a homeschooling philosophy can be a lot of fun, as you build upon the ideas that inspire you and your family the most.

HCCAHawaiian Classical Christian Academy, located in Hilo-The HCCA has just started up another semester of Friday classes for homeschoolers. Spanish from 1-2, Art from 2:15-3:30, Drama from 3:45-4:30. They are also looking for any kids 6-9 who want to compete with their team for the Science Olympiad in Crime Busters or Water Quality events. Elective classes are $80 for homeschooled families. Classes are just starting for the semester and run til mid May. Contact Kimi Hill for more info:

Aloha Co-op is offering a class for 6-7 year old homeschoolers, every Wednesday at Hawaiian Acres Community Center. They are doing a “Half n Half Class”, which is half tumbling and motor skill activities, and the other half reading stories out loud.

  1. Aloha! Our family has enjoyed Kua O Ka La Hipu'u and k12 as well as our own homeschooling curriculum.

We have a couple of teenagers now and they are vying for the social interaction of High school!

We would like to continue home/ virtual schooling with them, while offering them time to meet up with other students.

Maybe we could begin a social group for our kamali'i (our children) and hold events for them; I.e. : field trips, picnics, and maybe a dance or too. Maybe we could hold some sort of small graduation ceremonies for our kids in transitional grades too.

    What do you think?

    Mahalo!

  2. Dear Hawaii Homeschool Families,

PLEASE FIND AN OPPORTUNITY TO BRING "CHART YOUR COURSE TO HIGH SCHOOL SUCCESS" TO YOUR COMMUNITY!

My name is Stephanie and I started to homeschool my child in the 9th grade. I was frightened and confused about how to navigate my son’s high school years and prepare for college. I was blessed to meet Jean Burk, Author of College Prep Genius at a homeschool conference and attend Jean’s “Chart your Course to High School Success” seminar. The seminar gave me confidence and a plan to prepare for my child’s future. After attending the seminar, I felt the stress melt away and I could not wait to share what I learned with everyone! In fact, I loved the information so much that I felt that I just had to work for Jean and share the program with the entire country :-)

I am excited to announce that Jean Burk is traveling the country this year to share her four-hour “Chart your Course to High School Success” seminar with homeschool families. The “Chart your Course to High School Success “seminar is a God-send to any parent struggling with preparing a child for high school and college. During the seminar Jean will disclose little known transcripts secrets, creating school and/or homeschool credibility, standardized test secrets to raising scores as much as 600 points, finding scholarships and how to receive a piece of the $24 billion scholarship pie! Put together a high school portfolio that can even impress the admissions counselors at Harvard! The seminar provides so much information that you CAN’T miss!
